How do you like to travel?
One of my golden rules is to embrace a diversity of experiences in travel and life. From solo adventures to group tours, from luxury escapes to budget-friendly journeys, every trip has its unique charm and potential for discovery.
I’ve been fortunate enough to experience a variety of travel styles, and I’m continuously exploring more. I’m an avid hiking and adventure traveler, but recently, I started biking and have been taking more biking trips. I overcame my fear of driving in foreign countries when I drove from London to Mongolia, and now I love road-tripping around the world. Each type of travel has its advantages and perks.
I’ve listed my favorite types of travel below where I consider myself an travel expert, but feel free to ask me about any type of travel style you like!
Epic Trips
If you dream big, like to get goosebumps of anticipation and fear, and want to push your limits, then check out my Epic Adventures. Cross countries, oceans, and continents by foot, rickshaw, expedition ship, dogsled, and inappropriate cars!
I love epic trips so much that I included a section for them in my ebook Where to Go and When. This way you know the best times to do an African safari, see polar bears, go to Antarctica, chase the northern lights, walk the Camino de Santiago, and go kayaking in Greenland!
Solo Travel
That’s right, you don’t need anyone…you can go it alone! Why? Because you’re a badass and don’t want to wait for others to go where you want!
I want to inspire you to head out on your own too. Based on my own solo travels, I’ve provided some of my most important solo travel tips, best solo destinations, and safety advice.
Hiking Travel
I’ve spent much of my travels on hiking trails. From day hikes to circuits to pilgrimages, hiking trips are a great way to see a destination in a new way. It’s slow travel at its best!
My favorite type of hiking travel is when you can enjoy nature AND learn about the culture of an area. Here are some popular and lesser known hikes around the world.
Biking Travel
Seeing a country on two wheels is one of my favorite things to do. This is one of the reasons why I started my Capitol to Capitol Cycling Quest. Traveling by bicycle offers a unique blend of freedom, adventure, and sustainability that few other modes of travel can match.
Whether you’re navigating through bustling city streets or exploring tranquil countryside paths, cycling allows you to connect more deeply with your surroundings. So go on and enjoy the wind in your hair and the world at your pace!
Small Ship Cruises
Small ship cruising allows you to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations that are often inaccessible to larger vessels, allowing for more off the beaten path travel than big cruise ships.
My favorite type of small ship cruising is Expedition cruise where it feels like a journey into the unknown. Expedition ships allow us to explore remote places and cultures that are otherwise impossible to get to.
Road Trips
Hitting the open road, popping a Coca-Cola, opening up some jerky, and blasting my favorite road trip playlist—is there anything better?
I love being in complete control; I can stop wherever I want, take backroads, and eat as much junk food as I want!
