Ireland

I pretty much fell in love with Ireland the moment I saw her.  She seduced me with rolling, emerald, sheep-dotted hills and plains of gray-green stone and stirred my wild side with reckless winds tearing across rocky cliffs. Underneath her incredible expanse of sky, she stole my heart.  She is a land of myth and music – full of lovely, welcoming people with adventurous hearts and a great gift for weaving stories.  Ireland is a great many things and there are a great many things to do in Ireland.  Demure, yet saucy.   A gracious hostess with an untamed spirit.  She can bring an idyllic moment of pure pastoral contentment or nail biting panic on a twisting one lane cliff-side road.  This lady keeps you guessing.  And that is part of her charm.

Things to do in Ireland

  • A soul-filled late night kayaking adventure that led me to discover the deep magic of quietness.
  • Walking along the Cliffs of Moher past green fields of livestock with sea spray filling the air sparked some serious heart joy.
  • A remote hike across the rocky Burren, where I never once ran into another person, brought out my inner adventuring badass.
  • If you know me at all, you know how I love capturing images of abandoned places and the Muckrose Abbey in Killarney National Park was the perfect subject on a rainy afternoon.
  • Learning opportunities at the Peace Walls in Belfast.
  • A beautiful sunny day, a gorgeous river bank lined with fall trees and a city just waiting to be explored is a pretty damn great scenario for a walking tour of Cork City.

Hotels in Ireland:

Irish hotels, B&B’s, and Airbnb options – some of my favorite places to rest your weary bones:

  • Dolphin Beach House is a lovely, cozy B&B that gazes out over the cliffs of Connemara.
  • Meadowfield Bed and Breakfast in the colorful seaside village of Ballyvaughan.
  • Ceol Naara Bed and Breakfast where owner, Jim, won me over with his hospitality and passion about his town and landscape.

Ireland Food:

  • Velvety smoked salmon from Connemara Smokehouse.
