This week started a new chapter in my life. The chapter will be called “Am I crazy?” I escaped the premature snowmageddon predictions in NYC this week and flew out right after I finished my New York Time Travel Show talk on Solo Travel (were you there in the standing-room-only audience?!). I landed in a strangely warm Alberta, Canada, got intensely questioned by immigration, picked up my car, and drove to the Canadian Rockies – my new home for a month. There’s nothing more lovely than leaving Calgary and driving the short 60 minutes to the Rockies – the mountains in the distance getting closer and closer with every mile…errr…kilometer.
I’m staying in the adorable little town of Canmore for the month in a two-bedroom apartment at the Grande Rockies Resort. I arrived and promptly opened the patio door and stared at my mountain view – and enjoyed the spring-like temps. I’ve been settling in this week, getting to know the town, and unpacking. I think I could write a whole novel on the Joy of Unpacking. For the first time in a LONG time, I unpacked my entire toiletry bag and suitcase.Â
Read the story of two sisters – Canmore and Banff
I slowly hung each piece of clothes up on hangers, trying to make the giddy unpacking feeling last all that much longer – I wanted to savor it. I went to the grocery store, stocked my kitchen, and then promptly burned my bagels, nearly setting off the fire alarms. Hmmmm – maybe this is why I shouldn’t have a home…I’m really out of practice. Regardless, I’m nicely settled in now, and I’m not going anywhere for 30 days. It feels marvelous!
And now, to the “Am I Crazy?” part – I’m taking this month to do a bunch of winter Canmore activities (and Banff as well) that I’ve never done before. That’s right – this 44-year-old is hell-bent to try things for the first time. I kinda doubt this is a smart thing to do to my body as it doesn’t really recover as it used to…but I’m going to try – that’s all any of us can do. I started out this week with my first new Canmore activity – Cross Country Skiing (watch the video here!). All I can say is that my whole body hurts the day after and that leads me to my next ‘first’ activity – hot yoga. I’ll report on that next week!
Instagram will probably be on overload this month with new activities and that’s just how I like it.

What is Week In-Stagram Review?
Each week brings some new scenery and location for me – that’s just the way I like it. If you want to follow where I am real time – then on Friday I will post some of my Instagram photos from the current week. Some weeks I may be traveling somewhere exotic, and some weeks it may be less interesting – but it will give you a peek into my life of perpetual motion.

What a beautiful place – and a marvelous view! So glad you have your hangers. As a lover of winter myself, the activities sound wonderful! I would love to try cross-country skiing. And I can only assume some snowmobiling is on the list!

Wow – Canmore looks beautiful. I’m so jealous that you’re going to be there for a whole month. Good luck with all the outdoor activities. Your bones will get used to it soon enough 🙂
