Names are important – they can describe your personality, sense of humor, and sometimes mission. When you get a chance to choose a name for someone – you want to make sure you choose the ‘right’ one. This is where I need YOUR help! I know many creative, adventurous people read this blog. This is your chance to take a more active role….whomever you are – fan, lurker, or if you are simply looking for an diversion from work…I have it for you!
In 2011, I along with 3 other adventurous, well-traveled, and some may say crazy travel bloggers are setting out on a 10,000 mile journey to raise money on the Mongol Rally. We will be driving a ill-suited car from London to Ulanbataar Mongolia this summer to raise money for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation. This is no fluff press trip…this is us against the open road, in a car that is not meant to be driven to lengths which we intend to drive it.
In due time I will be inundating you with more information about this seemingly crazy adventure as well as a plea for donations. But first things first…a name.
Since we are all bloggers, we have decided to open up this name question to our uber creative audiences. We want you to be a part of our journey…and here’s the first step you can take to make your mark on our charity rally…and it’s completely free.
We need a team name! We need something catchy, creative, clever, and impactful; indicative of our personalities, the event, or cultures we will be driving through. Think you can meet all of those requirements? We’d love to see you try!
Contest: Submit your ideas for a team name in the comments of this post or on our Facebook pages or via twitter (include #weneedaname hashtag in your submissions) by Monday October 25th. We will go through the submissions and choose our favorite.
Now – to the important stuff – if we choose your name what will you get as a prize?
We will tattoo the winning name on our backs!!!…..ummm – ok – maybe we’ll just put it on our car instead.
Actually – you’ll get a super-duper, top-secret, authentic, gift from Mongolia to be sent in September 2011 after we arrive there.
Maybe it will be a miniature camel:
Or a real camel:
Or some ‘yummy’ dried, sour cheese:
Or a cool, new wrestling outfit:
In order to get your creative juices flowing – we are providing you with some info about our team, and the event. Plus – you can see some of the name of past teams to start to get your thinking…but remember – we want something original!
Dave and Deb – Canada’s Adventure Couple
The world is one big adventure playground to travel couple Dave and Deb. For the past 10 years they have climbed, paddled, hiked and biked their way through 5 continents. Through their blog ThePlanetD, they prove to other would-be travelers that you don’t have to be an expert mountaineer or professional athlete to be an adventurer. Their motto is “Anyone Can do it!” and the Mongol Rally is no exception. With very little skill in auto mechanics, they are looking forward to crossing two continents and 10,000 miles of rough terrain in an unsuitable mode of transportation. They plan to prove once again that you don’t need to be an expert to take on an epic adventure. This trip they look forward to sharing the challenges of the road with Sherry and Rick adding a whole new level to the experience.
Rick Griffen – Midlife Road Trip
Rick Griffin is a forty something year-old adolescent with ADD hitting the road as therapy for his midlife crises. Founder/Creator and co-host of the Midlife Road Trip, he has ticked of a bucket list of people’s dreams. After a near-death experience in 2004, Rick re-evaluated his priorities, sold his business and began to pursue his creative passions in travel, writing and video production. In 2009 Rick developed the creative concept used for Budweiser’s Designated Driver Campaign that premiered in the Tonight Show. Rick was the first place winner of XlantAds.com’s “Searching for Love” webisode contest and of Poptent.Net’s “Road Trip” contest. In 2010, Rick was selected as a featured panelist for BlogWorld 2010 in Las Vegas, selected for Princes Cruises “Follow Me At Sea”Twitter cruise, and selected to attend the NASA shuttle launch and Tweetup.
And me…who you already know!
One important thing to note – by the time of the rally – we will all be in our40’s…proving that the twenty-somethings and teenagers aren’t the only irresponsible people!
Mongol Rally Event Description:
The world is just a little bit too small. Gone are the days where the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond – satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want things to go wrong? What if you want a bit of unknown in your life? What if the words “adventure travel” conjure images of old ladies on a guided tour to Everest base camp with all the real adventure neatly removed? What you need is the Mongol Rally.
Imagine yourself in the middle of the gargantuan Kazakh desert, your car slowly being shredded by the dirt track your map says is a motorway, completely lost hundreds of miles from civilisation. Just you, your wits, your increasingly brown pants, a car that the laws of physics say shouldn’t have got you past Peckham Rye and a slightly angry looking man with a gun.
