Hey, friends of Sherry! It’s Candice Walsh & Cailin O’Neil from Social Media Atlantic Canada (SMAC), and we’re filling in on behalf of Ms. Ott as she disappears in the far, far east. Through social media, we’ll be documenting Sherry’s adventures with the Mongol Rally and the Social Media Syndicate team as they get further and further away from reliable Internet connectivity.
Why are we doing this? SMAC is our recently-launched social media management & consulting biz. We’re both social media enthusiasts, and we actually became BFFs through Twitter. In May and June, we travelled across Canada and used social media to plan the whole thing. We recognized an unfortunate lack of web presence in the tourism industry of Atlantic Canada, and now we’re helping businesses get online.
But the lovely thing about the world wide web is that our services aren’t limited to this corner of the world, and we couldn’t turn down an opportunity to help out some friends. Through satellite phones and a tracking device named Track24Solo, we’ll be sharing the highlights and pitfalls of Sherry’s time on the road. We’ll be micro-blogging to the extreme, and showcasing snippets of travel experiences as the Social Media Syndicate make their way to Mongolia.
