Hot Feet - Ubud on the island of Bali Indonesia
There’s a variety of cultural shows to attend every night in Ubud. This photo is from the Kecak Fire and Trance Dance. It consisted of about 50 men all chanting this tune with no accompaniment while the story of the dancers played out in front of us. At the end they lit a big pile of coconut husks on fire and let them burn high like a bon fire. A man is put in a trance by the 50 men choir of chanting. He then can walk through burning coals. He didn’t just walk through once, but at least 10 times. A colorful, and HOT show.

Hi Sherry! Greetings from Jimbaran, Bali. Found your blog from twitter, and already love your Trance Dance picture! Will definitely reading your Traventure in Bali! If you got a chance, please visit my blog http://www.beeamazing.com & http://www.wisatakulinerbali.com, I’m blogging about Bali travel tips & ideas and yummy food as well! Thanks!
Thanks for commenting! Trance Dances are probably pretty typical to you in Bali! Will definitely visit your blog; Bali is one of my favorite destinations! HOpe to get back there soon one day!
When I hear about things like this, I can’t possibly imagine walking through coals once, let alone 10x!!
Yes – but people read your blog and they can’t imagine running a marathon…and definitely not more than one!!!
I just discovered your blogs today and I must say, it was the encouragement I needed today as I stare out my D.C. hotel room at the gloomy weather. I have always loved to travel and did quite a bit in school. About a year ago I went to Brasil for a month and similar to you, I came back to what once was an office that was coveted, to feeling as though it was a jail cell. The past year I have started getting the wheels in motion to create an “exit strategy” I started with creating a blog a few months ago” Traveling for the Young, Fabulous and Broke http://www.traveling4yfb.com I would love to continue to follow you, it’s nice to see people who have done what I am wanting to do, perhaps one day we will find each other in the same country and can meet in person, until then I will be reading you closely for inspiration and pointers.
I’m in the US now and will be on the East Coast this summer – so maybe we can meet in person! Keep up the great work on the blog and don’t ever give up on the dream to escape the cubicle and make your vacations a way of life…not simply 2 weeks of freedom. If you haven’t done so already – check out my other site at http://www.briefcasetobackpack.com – it’s all about how to escape the cube!
One my favorite pictures you’ve taken Sherry. Hot!
Ha! I would’ve been really hot had I threw off my shoes and tried it for myself!
