Tokyo, Japan – Vending Machine Blurs
In Tokyo you can find practically anything in vending machines – they are high tech! Walking down the street you’ll find them lined up pimping the familiar and not so familiar! Can you imagine buying beer or sake from a vending machine?

Interesting cultural shot. I would like beer from a vending machine. It’s probably cold, something that’s rare in Latin America tiendas.
What a great photo! I’ve heard about the overzealous vending machines in Japan before, and I’d love to see them for myself.
Not a cold drink, but a hot drink in winter too. Come and try it.
I’d love to come back and visit Tokyo – I was only there for 4 days before! I think I could probably eat every meal out of a vending machine!
Not sure if it’s the angle of the photo but the design of the vending machines look very compacted! No space wasted.
space in Asia is never wasted! Thanks for stopping by the site and taking a look!
Really, really nice shot! Love the framing and the man blurred out makes it all come together. If I ever got to Japan I can’t wait to do a whole series on the vending machines there… the possibilities are endless! lol
Thanks T-roy! Tokyo is such a fabulous place to photograph. I was only there 4 days – but took thousands of photos! My favorite was the fish market in the middle of the night.

Great photo, Sherry. Not a single bit of wasted space in those vending machines.
Not only can I imagine buying anything in a vending machine, especially beer, I miss it terribly. Probably one of only two things I miss intensely from Tokyo. The other being Sundays in Harajuku watching the street bands and great fashion.
Go here to source my many Japanese & other Asian galleries, and enjoy my memories of the second greatest place on earth, behind Vietnam.

PS – there’s a vending machine photo or two in there somewhere.
Well – if you love Tokyo that much – then make sure you vote for it in the Best City to Travel To contest that my friend Anil at Foxnmad is having! I think Tokyo is a great city to visit – and photograph. So much unique, colorful culture!

When I was a kid growing up in Japan I used to run down to the corner convenience store with my little buddy and sell her dad’s empty beer bottles and then with the spare change buy him a pack of cigarettes and drinks for us. All from the vending machines! (we were too young to bother being “bad” with the beer or cigs, I’m sure if we were teenagers the dad may not have asked us to do it ha ha)
Have you seen the ones where you can buy the merchandise with your cellphone?
What a great memory. Wow -I can’t say that in my childhood I ever got near a vending machine in Peoria Illinois!
Great shot! Brings me back…we lived on vending machines during our trip to Tokyo
I lived in Tokyo 10 years ago (Meguro) and loved it. I miss all the hustle and bustle and yes, even the super crowded streets.
