Ottsworld - New and Improved!
I LOVE to cross things off a list, it’s really orgasmic at times…taking the pen and marking off a goal. This week, I was able to find that bliss…I FINALLY redesigned my ottsworld website! However - it’s still not 100% complete - but I ran out of time and have to hop a plane today. So - you will notice that some of the pages are still under construction or the pictures are not aligned properly, but they are on my list to be fixed!
What are the changes you ask?
Fundamentally - there are no huge changes - just a different look and feel, but all of the same old content.
Some things to note:
- I am hosting my own site now - so that means that I have control over the ads and all of the content. In addition, I get to use my www.ottsworld.com domain name. I am no longer updating the bootsnall site, so in the future, just type in www.ottsworld.com and you will come to my site! If you have ever linked to my site - you may need to update it if you were linking to the old bootsnall site.
- You can now sign up for RSS feeds or email notification. The email notification sign up is to your right of this post. You will received an email everytime I update the site if you sign up.
- Featured post section - As I write new posts - they will show up below the featured post section on the home page. Featured posts are things that I may want to highlight. If you simply want to have the regular blog view - go to the top navigation bar and click on Blog. That will list the posts in chronological order without a ‘features’ window.
- You can find any of my old posts in the Travel Adventures section of the navigation. Just go there and there wil be a drop down menu with all of the countries I visited.
- I’ve expanded the links section and recategorized them. They exist on the home page left side bar - check them out! I will be adding more as time goes by.
- There is a Tag window in the bottom right side bar. I’ve went through and tagged each old post if you are looking for posts about Transportation or Trekking or Travel Partners, you can click on that tag in the tag window and it will sort through all posts that have that topic and display them to you. Check it out - the tags are fun and a way to group stories that is different than location and more by emotion.
- You can have your picture (gravatar) show up when you leave a comment! If you have a gravitar and you leave a comment - we will now be able to see your lovely face! If you don’t have a gravitar or know what it is - go to http://en.gravatar.com/ and get one…it’s easy and it’s linked to your email!
- When you leave a comment (and I hope you do!!) you can also get the RSS feed for the comments. That way - if I or someone else responds to a comment you made, you will be notified so that the conversation can be continued if you’d like.
- I now have the ability to create surveys on the site - they will show up in the bottom right sidebar - so check them out periodically!
My goal of the new site is to have more control over the functionality and ads and to create more of a ‘community’. So please leave comments on the site - it’s fun to get a dialouge going and I read all of them and try to respond!
Don’t hesitate to provide feedback!

Great job on the site, Sherry - looking forward to following you on the new adventure
Hi Sherry,
The new site is great! I need to get off my butt and redesign mine. In fact the hosting where I had it has expired and although I previously moved all the content to other hosting(same as yours, I believe) I still haven’t gotten around to redirecting the URLs yet, sigh. Something for the fall when this contract is over and I’m not trying to work on my website after a day at work staring into a computer for 8-10 hours…….
Patricia
