Week In-stagram Review Jasper in January

January 24, 2014 8 Comments »

Each week brings some new scenery and location for me – that’s just the way I like it. If you want to follow where I am real time – then on Friday I will post some of my Instagram photos from the current week. Some weeks I may be traveling somewhere exotic, and some weeks it may be less interesting – but it will give you a peek into my life of perpetual motion.

I spent my week traveling around and learning to embrace the month of January in North America.  You must be hearty, dressed in down, and be armed with Kleenexes when you are embracing the month of January in Alberta Canada – but the little town of Jasper in Alberta made being bundled up a pure joy.  I went to the Jasper in January Festival in Jasper and Marmot Basin and was able to experience a slice of small town winter life.  This week I not only enjoyed the gorgeous views and peaks of the Canadian Rockies during fabulous weather (warm sunny days!), but I also did the quintessential winter activities – dog sledding, snow shoeing, and skiing.  All of this activity earned me a reason to eat large amounts of haggis (yes – haggis), and wash it all down with some home brew from Jasper Brewing Company and a mixology class from Evil Dave’s ‘not-so-evil’ Mike.

I had a blast playing in the mountains and meeting the locals in Jasper.  Jasper isn’t normally on people’s winter radar – but that’s what makes it so great – I felt like I had a found the perfect unique winter getaway.

A meal with a view at Pyramid Lake Lodge. My home for 4 days this week.

There’s much more to come on my time in Jasper – but here’s my real time travel advice – if you are free the next two weekends – the Jasper in January festival continues through Feb. 2nd – so stop on by!

Follow my live travels on Instagram!

Disclosure:  I was a guest of Tourism Jasper for this trip.  However all of the opinions expressed here are my own.  I had been wanting to see the Canadian Rockies in the winter for a long time and getting to the lesser known town of Jasper  is the perfect destination for my style of travel.
