Week In-stagram Review Nod to the Arts

February 7, 2014 5 Comments »

Each week brings some new scenery and location for me – that’s just the way I like it. If you want to follow where I am real time – then on Friday I will post some of my Instagram photos from the current week. Some weeks I may be traveling somewhere exotic, and some weeks it may be less interesting – but it will give you a peek into my life of perpetual motion.

I spent my week in a foreign environment – maybe one of the most foreign yet for me…a school!  In fact, I’ve been so busy teaching as part of the Keables Chair for Iolani School – I haven’t been able to keep up with writing this week!  Instead I’ve been reviewing other people’s work – photography, earth science, geography, and doing a number of presentations for a wide variety of classes.  It’s been a blast – but some of my favorite times this week is when I wasn’t the ‘teacher’ and instead was the student.  I visited a few of the art classes at Iolani just to see what they were like.  When I was back in high school I never took any art classes, I was way to focused on math and science.  So I was stunned when I saw all of the amazing creative classes available to Iolani students – and yes – I was also a little bit jealous.  What an amazing school and amazing opportunities for these kids!

hula dance hawaii

Tradition. It’s beautiful to see the hula culture carried on & taught @iolani_school

The sun shines on the ‘lo sculpture on @iolani_school campus. A sculpture made by the kids in the Design class! Another spectacular start to the day.

Pac Man

The @iolani_school elevator is a time warp for me – it plays Pac Man music and embellished with the video motif. All made by their design students.

Little black dress garbage bag

A little black dress made from a garbage bag! The students @iolani_school get to do real life #ProjectRunway challenges!

Brass mold

It’s getting hot in here! I watched as students in the @iolani_school design shop heated brass to 2000 degrees and poured into a mold for a project they are working on. Incredible learning opportunities at this school! #fb #keables
