Oh - you are making me miss my motorbike... how sad. Good point - I never really thought about the fact that crossing in the middle of the street is easier...definitely counter intuitive - but true!
Be safe - and remember...never back up and retreat when crossing the street - you are expected to always move forward - not backward!!

Good luck!

Now that I've experienced the chaotic traffic that is Vietnam, I understand exactly what you're talking about. One thing that helps me is to cross in the middle of a street, not at an intersection. This way you're only dealing with traffic coming and going in two directions and nothing can pop up from around a corner unexpectedly.

On a side note, I can't believe you rode on a motorbike! I've seen a few accidents and several close calls; riding in a taxi is experience enough!

Sherry, we just returned to WI from FL. Had snow flurries all last week but today it's almost 70, a wonderful sunny Spring day (which we spent raking and burning leaves.) Frank arrived on Thursday evening and we spent the weekend golfing and enjoying his company. He's now in a 3M seminar for two weeks so we won't see him until a week from Friday. He then leaves for home that Sunday.nrWe just love reading of your articles and have a much better understanding, having traveled just a little bit of the adventure with you, of your approach and are thoughly convinced you are a very talented gal. You should have little problem getting a position as a travel photo-journalist when you get back to the U. S. Keep them coming and most of all, travel safe, we worry about you!nrLove, Bill and Lois

Hey Sherri - such fun to read about Hanoi when we were just there! I especially liked all your videos of the traffic; it brought it all back. I'll keep reading and follow your journey as you head south. I also want to go to Sapa sometime....
