The densely packed city of Saigon

Last month I produced a Saigon City guide podcast for one of my favorite travel websites, The Indie Travel Podcast.  I love writing, and I wasn’t really sure how I would like researching and doing a podcast, but it proved ot be a lot of fun!  So – here’s everything you want to know about traveling to Saigon, from my perspective which of course is a bit more slanted to cultural travel rather than luxury travel or tours.  Please feel free to share your comments and questions and of course please feel free to pass this podcast along to anyone you know traveling to Vietnam!

You may wonder how on earth you can live out of a suitcase or backpack. I can’t say it’s easy, but with a few of these tips, you’ll at least make sure your whole ‘home’ doesn’t smell like your dirty socks!

You are staring at your 4,000 cubic inches of space to fill getting ready for your long-term travel; if there was ever a time to be obsessive-compulsive, it’s now.

When you live out of a suitcase or backpack, organization is key!

Thanks to everyone that voted for the Indie Travel Podcast Lonely Planet Awards!  It payed off as they were the winners of the Podcasting category!  I started writing for Indie Travel Podcast about a year ago after Craig interviewed me on one of his podcasts – Home and Away with Sherry Ott.  Craig and Linda work and play/travel super hard and it has been a pleasure getting to e-know them as we’ve never met in person; the joys of the internet!

I’m thrilled to be a little part of their site – and their win…ha!

Lonely Planet is one of the largest brands in travel writing. For them to recognise the work of professional and independent bloggers in this way shows their commitment to new media and developments in technology.

For a relatively small and independent site, the Indie Travel Podcast, to win the Best Podcast award shows that innovative new sites can provide professional and interesting travel news and advice. It also shows the growing importance of portable digital media in the travel sphere.

Lonely Planet Travel Blog Awards
The Indie Travel Podcast has been nominated in the Lonely Planet travel blog awards this year.

Why do I care? 

First, I think they put together an excellent travel podcast.  I’ve been a regular listener since the day I left the US to travel around the world.  They have been on my blogroll now for a long time; they have great travel advice  – short and sweet. 

Second, I write for them, so a vote for them is like a vote for me!  Plus, Craig and Linda at the Indie Travel Podcast are some of the hardest working people I know; they teach ESL, been traveling around the work now for 3 years, and manage to run the ITP empire!  They are lovely people and have taught me a ton about this crazy world of travel blogging and living.

Lonely Planet is a huge name in travel publishing, so a win here would be really excellent for the Indie Travel Podcast. 

50% of the decision is based on the public vote. They are currently coming third but would really like to be in second place before things move on to the judges’ decisions. Spiritual Passenger

Going it Solo

I was recently asked to become a regular contributor for one of my favorite travel websites – The Indie Travel Podcast. Their site has a wealth of information and downloadable podcasts for the long term traveler. I utilized many of their podcasts during my travels! Plus, Craig and Linda (the hosts of the podcasts and site) ,are living out my dream of teaching ESL, traveling, and helping others travel through their website/podcasts. They have been a huge help to me in my planning of my next big step of teaching and traveling.

I have agreed to put out one travel article a month to start…so my first one was published this week!
My first article was on Solo Travel – One Isn’t the Loneliest Number – you can read by clicking here!

In this article, Sherry Ott tells us why solo travel is right for her and probably for you – not least because you spend less time waiting for your friends in the toilet.
